Frugal & Natural Cleaning Recipes M-O:
Metal
Cleanser:
Create a paste by adding white vinegar to 2 tablespoons of cream of
tarter. Rub it on with a clean cloth until dry and shiny.
Marble
Cleaner:
Rub baking soda into marble with a damp cloth. Rinse with water and
towel dry. This will naturally clean and disinfect. Note: Do not use
vinegar, lemon or other acidic acid on marble.
Microwave
Oven Cleaner:
Fill a microwave safe bowl with 1/2 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup
water, and microwave for 2 minutes or until a rolling boil. The baked
on food will loosen and the odors disappear with the vinegar steam.
Wipe down sides of microwave with solution (wearing gloves due to
temperature of the vinegar/water solution).
Mineral
Deposit Remover (Showerheads / Faucets):
For showerheads or faucets that are clogged up with mineral deposits
white vinegar is again the solution. Fill plastic bag (that will fit
over your showerhead) with full strength white vinegar, place over
showerhead so that showerhead is submersed in the vinegar, keep in
place with a rubber band. Let showerhead soak for a few hours, then
remove. Faucets can also be soaked in vinegar by placing a vinegar
soaked cloth or paper towel in white vinegar and wrapping the area for
a few hours or overnight.
Mold
& Mildew Remover:
Mix half white vinegar and half water in a spray bottle to remove mold
and mildew in the bathroom. This solution will also help inhibit future
mold and mildew growth.
Oven Cleaner:
- Recipe
1:
Sprinkle spills generously with salt while the oven is still
hot.
The burned deposit should scrape off with no trouble when the oven
cools.
- Recipe
2:
Sprinkle a thick layer of baking soda on bottom of a cool oven, spray
baking soda with water until moist (keep moist by spraying every few
hours as it dries), scrape the baking soda and food residue out of the
oven, rinse oven with water.

3: For
thorough cleaning, set an open shallow dish of full-strength ammonia
inside the cold oven. Close the door and let it stand
overnight. The ammonia gas from the solution is absorbed by
the
grease, which ends up like soap. Do not use this method on
aluminum.
